Laurie Capen - Founder, Director, Physics, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, Intro to College Math, SAT Math, Computer Information Systems.
Laurie Capen has a Bachelor’s of Science from the US Naval Academy where she majored in history and political science, a unique academic combination. She completed a Masters in Education from George Washington University where she majored in curriculum and instruction with a focus on secondary mathematics. She is currently enrolled at Harvard in postgraduate work in educational leadership. She has three children, ages 23, 21 and 19. Her daughter, homeschooled K-12, graduated from Sweet Briar College and attended Oxford University in England. Both sons were homeschooled until high school where they chose to pursue varsity sports at Paul VI Catholic High School where Ms. Capen continues to teach summer school mathematics and SAT/ACT Prep. Her older son plays baseball for the College of the Holy Cross, majoring in mathematics. Her youngest is attending Campbell University and is in the PGA golf program. She is incredibly proud that all three children attended their first choice colleges. Laurie has taught math, science, history and English in co-ops, private school, and private tutoring. Her professional career includes being the director and a counselor at a drug and alcohol outpatient rehabilitation center, the Director of Student Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School, the Director of Religious Education at Naval Station Mayport, and the Director of Publications for Naval Services Family Line in Washington, DC. She is also a USA Gymnastics judge.
